On receipt and monthly,test your detector with propane or unlit butane from a cigarette lighter. Place alarm near ceiling for natural gas or other buoyant gases and near floor for propane, butane. See the displayed gas levels in % LEL go up before the alarm sounds at 5% LEL, with 100% LEL being the minimum gas concentration for fires/explosions. Push center button for gas readings. Item undergoes self-test sequence on startup.
