of the 'good stuff' from the original documentary, without all the
architectural studies and all of the in-depth looks at each room of the home. The Bedford Central Library purchased the original documentary (DVD 812POR), and that film is now two hours in length. This film shows all of the Civil War History from the first film, and all of the reenacted scenes depicted, and of course, the main point of interest, and the reason a director's release was created... the actual November 1, 2003 photograph of the White Lady Ghost of Avenel House, taken by George Roland Wills during the making of the original documentary. The woman is a solid human figure with dark curled hair, and beige skin tone, in a white 1800's dress, standing on the porch. She was not seen on the porch when the photograph was taken, yet she appears in the photograph, notwithstanding... From Letitia Burwell's diaries, housed at UVA, we can now see the flounced white muslin dress she described in writing as having worn when she was alive. We believe this woman to be Miss Letitia Burwell. Other first-person accounts of the ghost are also recorded in this film. The rare 1991 interview with Peggy Ballard Maupin, the only other owner of the home, ( and Peggy also claims to have actually seen our ghost!) is also included. General Robert E. Lee stayed here in October of 1867.
