Willie Nelson sweetens the spirit with the rerelease of PEACE IN THE VALLEY, an inspiring mix of gospel standards and newer songs stemming from Willie's gospel roots.

"I don't ever remember not playing and singing gospel music," Willie says. "My grandparents were music teachers and they were gospel singers. The first music that I heard was gospel music, so it's not that unusual that I would be so much into it."

"I was doing an album with Billy, my son, in Nashville. We didn't know how it was going to turn out and really what we were going to do with it when we got through, but the guys sounded so great," he says, of the musicians and singers whose voices are an integral part of the album's full gospel sound.

"I hadn't heard a group of singers that close to traditional gospel harmony in so many years that I was very impressed and still am very impressed with those guys," Willie says. "It just turned out so well." The original PEACE IN THE VALLEY was confiscated by the IRS in 1991. But by the fall of 1992, the IRS began returning Willie's possessions including the gospel masters.

It was originally released in 1994 receiving much praise and positive reviews - awarded Gospel Album of The Year by the ICGMA.

THE NEW PEACE IN THE VALLEY RERELEASE

While many Willie Nelson recordings have been rereleased throughout the years, the PEACE IN THE VALLEY rerelease is quite special.

The original studio tapes had to be salvaged by first baking them in a special oven and then transferring all tracks to a high quality digital format. All the takes were studied and listened to, selecting the best parts, bringing in additional vocals as well as additional instrumentation. Meticulous remixing and the latest mastering techniques put the finishing touches on this previously released classic.

This CD represents masterpieces of Ukrainian Orthodox Church music performed by the famous monastic choir of Kiev Pechersk Monastery. During the centuries the specific style of Christian church chorus music (meditation chanting )was formed in the monastery. The origin of chants is in XI century when monk Anthony, arrived from Aphona, founded the Kiev-Pechersk Monastery Sacred choral music of Kiev Pechersk monastery organically synthesize early Byzantine and Ukrainian folk music traditions. Under influence of south-Slavic Spiritual songs, religious hymns gained a power and became one of brightest characteristics of Ancient Rus in the medieval time. On this CD represented not only traditional Kiev Pechersk Praise and worship masterworks but also classical Rachmaninov vespers, psalms, sacred works by Sarti and other composers. It's worth to mention "Christ's Resurrection" by Sergey Rachmaninoff. Rachmanoff's works are being performed throughout the world. His symphonies, piano concertos are well known. Still, in the vast space of his music THERE ARE SOME PRESERVED CORNERS. One of which is his evensong. When in 1915 the 42-years old Sergey Rachmaninoff had turned to the church choir music, he was living through a hard period of his life. He confessed he was getting weaker and older and was looking for "air, rest and solitude". The concluding words of this chant bore a special significance for the composer. He stressed the phrase "By Death Shall Death Be Destroyed" by sudden break in the sound dynamics, which turns it into an intimate confession. From ancient times Ukrainian Christmas carols became a symbol of Christmas time.
